The coronavirus pandemic already had an impactful effect on how we clout and continue the societal digital alterations. What are the strong key lessons which need to be lettered during this phase of transformation? What type of new digital deal one must adopt to passably power the abruptly generated COVID 19 Era? It is remarkable to quote that COVID 19 has accelerated the digital transformation out of necessity. For menials of digitalization in various organizations worldwide “never waste a good crisis” has become an all-time mantra. Necessity is the mother of invention and the COVID 19 pandemic created a necessity for certain changes that were otherwise progressing at a novel pace.
Remote working Environment has become the default situation in the current scenario. Telecommuting and video communications have been embraced at an unprecedented scale in these days in all the fields. Education would not be able to continue learning operations without such tools as Google classroom, Hangouts, Zoom, etc. As we look forward beyond the end of the coronavirus pandemic, we prepare to mitigate the economic fallout, find ourselves in a position to ride the waves of change and develop the key mechanisms of the post-corona virus world. What can be distilled from the digital push we are currently experiencing, and what are the fundamentals for the communities, cities, the local and national governments to urge for the following chapter of digitalization right?
For many organizations, including governmental organizations and municipalities- yes, even for those engaged in smart city endeavors digital often ended up getting used to optimize legacy models of organization, systems of the past, and inherently inefficient tools. There are digital to many, continued to be “nice to have” features allowed to land on top of the world which drove several efficiencies at its best. Those more advanced on the digitalization journey, people who are in an exceedingly operate in a mode of “digital preferred” or “digital by default”, were those best prepared to fulfill this crisis at hand. Digital by default should be the mode to prepare for and, as such, the guiding principle for city operations and government at large as we all prepare for a post-corona virus era. There is no doubt that Coronavirus demands great innovation within the domain of public health and hygiene as well.
Governments and key leaders in public sector domains need to have a better foresee as an articulated vision as to what sort of digital tomorrow they wish to appreciate and what type of modes of digitalization they wish to endorse. During this tenure of activating digitalization, our key leaders and government need to be more articulated as to how to prepare the realization of the vision. We all need to shake hands with this new digital deal and we need it sooner rather than later. There should be no digitalization for the sake of digitalization rather it should be a constructive approach that helps us to mitigate the current crisis as well as the ones that will follow and ensure societal resilience and wellbeing of tomorrow.
Overall, Corona is indeed a big threat still and the psychology of humans towards this deadly virus is a mixture of pain, fear, self-realization, tolerance, pride, etc. This condition needs to be addressed very seriously and vigilantly. Otherwise, the whole world will follow a downfall. It is also a lesson for human beings to prove that man is just a guest on this earth, not a master. We can see this virus just by staying positive and united rather than thinking this as only a lockdown. This is the best time for every individual to think wisely to start using the time to enhance the skills.
